Elise RecallsIf you have a query regarding the status of recalls on your car then contact Andrew Plant, recall co-ordinator at Lotus Cars on 01953 608544. He will need to know the Vehichle Identification Number (VIN), which is a unique code for your car.October 2002Quote from Lotus Cars - A small number of Lotus Elise models ... have been identified as having been built using a rear suspension component which may not meet the specified quality standard. In the unlikely event of failure of this part, unstable handling would result. Cars within the affected range are to be visually inspected by the dealer, and when necessary, replacement suspension links fitted.Fuel Filler (SCCGA1111YHC80101)February 2001 - There is a problem with the breather hose on the fuel filler. Some Elises and Exiges have been identified as having been fitted with a filler breather hose of an incorrect material, with a reduced durability and an increased potential for leaking. A leaking filler breather hose will allow fuel spillage when refuelling or when cornering. This is not a problem that requires immediate attention and the part will be replaced by your dealer free of charge. It takes about an hour to replace the part.Electromagnetic InterferenceMarch 2000 - Lotus has recalled 1,300 Elise 111S models. In some circumstances electromagnetic interference could cause an engine misfire, leading to exhaust catalyst damage. Only 111S variants are affected, and owners can call 0800 0365688 for more details.111S Fuel LineApparently Rover have shipped some engines with the wrong size fuel line and this needs to be replaced as soon as possible. This only affects very recent cars and I'll put the chassis numbers here when I get them. You should be contacted by your dealer if this affects your car.Chassis Coolant TubesIn early cars these can be punctured by a rivet in the chassis side rails, due to incorrect placement of bends in the tubing. The grinding can be heard by your elbow and Lotus will not fix this under warranty. The work involves cutting the old tubes out.Steering ArmA service bulletin has been issued announcing a redesigned steering arm should to be fitted at the next service. The existing one has failed to handle the stresses generated by hard track use and will provide better control of bump steer. This was standard fitment to new cars from February 1999.Suspension BoltsA recall was made on the rear suspension toe link bolt which may become loose and cause 'unstable handling'. 3771 vehicles were affected, chassis numbers T0001 to W3800 (built June 1996 to June 1997). The fix was to fit a new, longer bolt and apply locking compound. |
