The pressure is on for Lotus to announce a new, higher power variant of the Elise as Vauxhall announces a new VX220 with as much as 200bhp. There seems to be a growing trend in the car industry to stick more power into every car. The latest rumour on the S2 is that it will have a Toyota VVTi engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox. In the shorter term, a 143bhp stage II equipped, standard model Elise will probably break cover at or before the Geneva Motorshow.
